A knockout! Dense and deeply colored, this blend is very fruit forward with ripe, spicy, cherry and tobacco flavors on the mid-palate. At first sip the wine tastes powerful and smooth. It has a long, lovely finish with hints of cedar and black pepper.

Brian and Lori Nuss make boutique estate wines under their Vinoce label from their spectacular vineyard on Mount Veeder in Napa. Their Twenty Rows label has wines made from purchased grapes from prime sites within California. The Grappler is 60% Zinfandel, 30% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Zinfandel is sourced from Amador County, while the Syrah is grown at a highly regarded Paso Robles vineyard and the Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from vineyards in the Napa Valley. The wine is named after the Nuss sons, who dedicated a lot of time and effort to the sport of wrestling: hence, The Grappler.
I could not wait to get in the kitchen when I tasted this wine and whip up a few Pizzetta with Roasted Garlic Bulbs and Cambozola. The creamy tanginess of the Cambozola is just perfect with this wine. I would go ten rounds with this.
The Grappler is a smack-down wine that you can take to the mat. Put the big hurt head-lock on anyone who tries to drink this wine without you.
